An individual once said, “The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of people.” We would say, farming is a way to cultivate people back to their roots. It’s ok to know the farmer that fed, nurtured, and cared for the food on their supper table. It’s ok to not have to wonder how the animal was treated, if it had room to move or what it was fed. It’s ok not to feel guilty for cutting into a juicy steak or a perfectly cooked pork chop. All these things can be had when a bond is formed between farmer and consumer. In other words when a community is formed!
6.4 miles away from the blinking yellow light in Oakley, Michigan is a 14 acre plot of land. We’re the 5th generations of Thiel’s farming these lands since the 1800’s. Our Roots are firmly planted on this property and we look forward to linking up with the past, while raising our future.
Ryan is Michigan born and raised. He came from small town life with the church right down the road, family gatherings, 4-H and fairs, helping local farms harvest, and raising all types of farm animals. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Military Police at the age of 17 and was in uniform for 25 years ending with his career in K9 law enforcement. He has a passion for his family and training animals.
Sara grew up on a 1/4 acre in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. Her love for gardening, animals, and architecture were seeded on this land from her dad and mom. Sara graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture and has had a fabulous career running and owning Annapolis Landscape Architects in Maryland with three other talented partners. Sara loves to grow her children, animals, and most of all plants. Her well worn Plant Lady t-shirt, says it all!
We look forward to fulfilling our farming mission of staying close as a family while growing as a community.
